But something else is keeping me up...
Night 1- The music and parties going on throughout Kampala. Granted, it was a weekend night, so you have to give people that. However, these people knew how to party... as in, even after I got into my compound after midnight, set up my bed net, made up my bed, showered, and picked out the things that I needed... this thing was still carrying on. Solution? Turn the buzz of my mini fan up all the way, and plug in the iPod.
I woke up the next morning to the church full of people next door singing praises to God. It still woke me up, but it was a welcome change from the night before.
Night 2- THE. STUPID. DOGS. We have a guard and gate at our compound to prevent intruders from coming in, but for those who don't, they just send their dogs out into the city to (viciously) scare away any potential intruders. I know that I am safe where I am, so these mutts are just downright obnoxious. Emma and I talked about it this morning, and last night's particularly loud and lengthy chorus reminded us of that scene in 101 Dalmatians where the dogs send a warning call by passing a message all over London via bark. It's called the Twilight Bark, and these Ugandan pooches had it down.
So, this morning expecting a bit of solace, Emma and I went out onto the porch. This is our porch:
| (Isn't it a dream!?) |
But guess what we heard:
-School kids singing
-These birds that make a sound that I can't even imitate
-Goats
-The prayer call from the mosque in town (twice)
-Car sirens....
p.s. My Lion King plate broke today.... devastated...
