Get ready. It’s about to get really sappy, predictable, and
girly up in here. I mean, this dude totally deserved a standing ovation, so I
figured that at least the blogging world needed to know.
To start off, it’s been an exhausting week. I’m talking:
tired to the point that I ended up taking a nap on the grass in between the
library and the JFSB. I set my alarm for 5:40 so I could be on time for my next
appointment, but I happened to wake up a few minutes before it went off. As I
sat up and looked around something caught my eye.
Literally hundreds of paper airplanes darted,
floated, glided, and tumbled off of the roof of the JFSB into the square. In my
day at BYU, I’ve seen all sorts of things fly off that building from parachutes,
to candy, to whatever flyer somebody is too lazy to hand out all on their own.
But this time was different, original, and totally my style.
It was then that the only couple left in the square stood
standing there with a guitar case. The man pulled out the guitar and began to
serenade his girl. (I mean, is this real?)
This guy played forever, but how can
I blame him? His purpose was beyond evident when the video cameras suddenly
came out. And yet… he kept on playing.

One guy passing by asked me what was going on. I told him
that I was fairly certain that this guy was proposing. He reassured me that
maybe my day was coming soon. I had to laugh, because disappointment was the
farthest thing from my feelings at that moment. He probably just mistook my
worn off make up, disheveled hair, and exhausted expression for desperation.
(Common mistake I’m sure… not.)
FINALLY, this guy got down on his knees and proposed. This
guy gets all sorts of style points in my book, and if nothing else for reaffirming
my six year old faith in fairy tales. Oh, and p.s. she definitely said
yes. :)
I firmly believe that life is not going to simply be happily
ever after. It certainly hasn’t been that up to this point. When
relationships don’t work out, they hurt: big time. But there’s reason to hope
that someday they will work out. Not every day is going to be as extravagant as this scenario
was, but it’s seeing these kind of moments that make waiting for the right one
well worth it.
I do know that when I do find that best friend that I decide
to spend eternity with, I’m going to work every day to make it last. He’s not
going to be perfect, and I already know that I’m certainly not, but I’m never
going to stop believing in fairy tales. Never ever.
Plus, if Prince Charming is reading this post, it can’t hurt
him to know what style looks like. ;)
